The Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC) is a presidential collegial administrative body established to proactively respond to the convergence of media and communications driven by advances in digital technology, to strengthen the public responsibility of the media and enhance consumer benefits in the media and communications sectors, and to promote balanced development and international competitiveness in these fields.

The Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC), founded under the Act on the Establishment and Operation of Korea Media and Communications Commission, is responsible for media and communications regulation, consumer protection, and the independence of broadcasting services.

The KMCC’s mission is to contribute to the protection of citizens’ rights and public welfare.

By proactively responding to the convergence of media and communications, the KMCC aims to:
● Guarantee the freedom, public nature, and public interest of the media
● Ensure freedom of expression and consumer rights

By operating independently and responsibly, the KMCC also strives to:
● Promote balanced development of the media and communications sectors
● Foster a trustworthy information environment
● Strengthen international competitiveness

The key functions of the KMCC include:
● Implementing media policies for terrestrial broadcasting, program providers engaged in general programming or news
  reporting, and pay broadcasting services
● Investigating violations by broadcasting and communications service providers and imposing appropriate sanctions
● Establishing and enforcing policies for broadcasting and communications consumer protection,
  as well as broadcasting programming and evaluation
● Preventing the distribution of illegal and harmful information
● Arranging broadcasting commercials
● Developing media diversity policies
