INSPECTION TO BE CONDUCTED ON DELAYS IN CANCELING SKT INTERNET CONTRACTS

Delays in the “One-Stop Switching Service” have occurred… An inspection will take place to determine violations of relevant laws.

An inspection will be conducted in response to delays in canceling high-speed internet services provided by SK Telecom (high-speed internet resale carrier).

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairperson Lee Jinsook) announced on the 12th that it will carry out an inspection to determine whether there have been violations of the Telecommunications Business Act, following recent delays in high-speed internet service cancellations caused by improper processing of the “One-Stop Switching Service” when consumers attempted to cancel their contracts.

The One-Stop Switching Service allows consumers to sign up with a new mobile carrier and cancel their existing contract simultaneously, without needing to request cancellation from their previous provider.

The service was introduced by the KCC in 2020 to enhance consumer convenience and is currently implemented on mobile carriers and System Operators (SOs).

However, due to recent delays in the One-Stop Switching Service when consumers were cancelling their high-speed internet services provided by SK Telecom, the KCC will examine whether the company delayed or restricted internet service cancellations without justifiable reasons.

Furthermore, the KCC plans to explore ways to improve the One-Stop Switching Service to ensure that consumers can freely and conveniently choose their mobile carriers.
